NOIA-Hibernia Commemorative Scholarship

In 1997, the birth of Newfoundland and Labrador’s oil and gas industry was marked by the achievement of a “triple crown” of milestones: the successful completion and tow-out of the Hibernia platform to its offshore location on the Grand Banks and first oil in November 17th, 1997.

To mark this occasion, in 1997 NOIA announced the establishment of the NOIA-Hibernia Commemorative Scholarship Fund. This fund offers an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador who is entering post-secondary studies and intending to pursue a petroleum-related career. The scholarship will be awarded to the student who best meets academic, extra-curricular and needs criteria.

The scholarship was established with support from the following organizations:

  • AMI Offshore
  • AOC Brown & Root Canada
  • United Kingdom Department of Trade and Industry/British Consulate General, Toronto
  • Coflexip Stena Offshore (now Technip Canada Limited)
  • Elsag Bailey (Canada) Ltd.
  • Fabcon Canada Limited
  • Halliburton Energy Services
  • Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd.
  • Morrison Hershfield Limited
  • NOIA
  • Noble Drilling (Canada) Ltd.
  • PanCanadian Petroleum Limited (now Encana Corporation)
  • PCL Industrial Constructors Inc.
  • Petro-Canada-Terra Nova Project.

Newfoundland and Labrador high school students who will graduate in June 2010 and are pursuing post-secondary studies in the 2010-2011 academic year, with the ultimate goal of a petroleum-related career, are welcome to apply for this scholarship. Each student should outline their community and extra-curricular activities in the completed application and include a letter of reference.

Applications should be received before 5:00 p.m., August 13, 2010 at the following address:
