MARINER, MAYFLOWER, MARAUDER, MARCONI AND MARQUIS

Status: At various stages of exploration

Representative: Canadian Superior Energy Inc.

The Mariner Block (EL2409) is located in less than 100 m (328 ft) of water, approximately 275 km (170 mi) southeast of Halifax, NS, near Sable Island.  The Canadian Superior El Paso Mariner I-85 exploration well was spudded with the jackup rig Rowan Gorilla V in late November 2003 and plugged and abandoned in late March 2004.  Results from this well are discussed on the Company’s website at www.cansup.com.

The Mayflower Block (EL2406) covers approximately 711,638 acres of deep water (500 – 2700 m (1640 – 8858 ft)) located in the western-most portion of the Scotia basin, approximately 457 km (284 mi) east of Boston.

The Marauder Block (EL2415) encompasses 312,034 acres and the Marconi Block (EL2416) encompasses 58,844 acres.  Both these blocks are also in the Sable Island area.

The Marquis Blocks (EL2401 & 2402) cover approximately 110,764 acres and are located approximately 20 km (12 mi) northwest of Sable Island.  The Marquis L-35/L-35A exploration well was drilled in 2003 with the jackup rig Rowan Gorilla V, encountered porosity and Abenaki reef reservoir, and was plugged and abandoned. Results from this well are discussed on the Company’s website at www.cansup.com.

EXPLORATION LICENCE 1070 (“EL 1070”)

Status:
Exploration

Field Location: Western Newfoundland

Operator: Shoal Point Energy Limited (“SPE”)

Partners: SPE, PDI Production Inc. (“PDIP”) & Canadian Imperial Venture Corp. (“CIVC”)

Permit area:
103,040 hectare (approx. 255,000 acres)

Rights to the block were awarded to CIVC by the C-NLOPB in January, 2002 following a successful bid by that company.  Canadian Imperial Venture Corp., in turn, farmed out to PDIP and SPE, with the three companies now holding various working interests in the property.  The interest holder of record is Enegi Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of CIVC, as shown on the current NOIA East Coast Map.

During 2008, the Consortium drilled a deep exploration well, Shoal Point 2K-39 from an onshore location to an offshore target approximately 2 km (1.2 mi) to the North under Port au Port Bay.  During drilling, strong shows of hydrocarbons were encountered in the Green Point Formation which is dominantly a thick shale horizon with occasional dolomite stringers.  The Formation has been long recognized as a rich source of light crude and natural gas encountered in seeps and wells in the region.  As a result of the recent well and developments in similar Appalachian shales elsewhere, the Green Point is now recognized by the Consortium as an undiscovered Resource Play.  A preliminary third party estimate suggests that EL1070 could host a potential resource in place in the order of 2 billion barrels oil equivalent.  Recovery factors and economic viability are currently unknown and the Consortium is working to develop a base of information and knowledge to value the potential resource.

Drilling of the 2K-39 well by the Consortium has validated the Licence until January 15, 2011.   There are no further work requirements or rentals payable until that date.

ORPHAN BASIN

The Orphan Basin is located 350-500 km (217-311 mi) northeast of St. John’s, NL, in water depths of 500-2600 m (1640-8530 ft).  The current interest holders in Orphan Basin exploration licenses are: Chevron Canada Limited (50%); Shell Canada Limited (20%); ExxonMobil Canada Limited (15%); and Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Limited (15%).

Chevron, on behalf of its co-venturers, drilled an exploration well known as Great Barasway F-66 in 2006/2007.  The well was drilled in 2338 m (7670 ft) of water, 390 km (242 mi) northeast of St. John’s.  The drill rig used for the Orphan Basin exploration well was the Eirik Raude, owned by Ocean Rig.

CENTRAL RIDGE/FLEMISH PASS

Central Ridge/Flemish Pass saw renewed interest in land sales in 2008; three parcels were up for bids and all three were awarded to successful bidders, Husky Energy, Petro-Canada, StatoilHydro and Repsol Exploracion.  Husky Energy has an interest in all three, Repsol in two and Petro-Canada and StatoilHydro in one each.  StatoilHydro also holds a licence (EL1049) from a land sale announced late in 1999; the company is now drilling a well in 1100 m (3609 ft) of water on this licence, the Mizzen Prospect, using the Henry Goodrich drill rig, owned by Transocean.  Drilling began in December 2008 and is expected to be completed early in 2009.

JEANNE D’ARC BASIN

The Jeanne d’Arc Basin, which is home to Newfoundland & Labrador’s three producing offshore projects, currently has 16 active Exploration Licences. Fifteen of these are held either solely or jointly by Husky Energy (EL1055, EL1089, 1090, 1091, 1094, 1096, 1099 – 100%; EL1100, 1101 – 50%; EL1110 – 40%; EL1111, 1114 – 67%), Petro-Canada (EL1092, 1113 – 50%; EL1110 – 40%), StatoilHydro (EL1092, 1100, 1101, 1113 – 50%; EL1095 – 100%; EL1110 – 20%), and Repsol Exploracion (new player in 2008 land sales, EL1111, 1114 – 33%). One Exploration Licence is held between 7 parties, divided as such: ExxonMobil (28.125%), Chevron (26.875%), Petro-Canada (20%), CHHC (8.5%) Murphy Oil (6.5%), ExxonMobil Canada Hibernia Company (5%), StatoilHydro (5%).

LABRADOR OFFSHORE REGION

Labrador Offshore Region is a frontier region in our oil and gas industry, and it saw significant interest in a 2007 Call for Bids.  The results of this call were announced in 2008, and four licences were awarded.  The interest holders are Husky Energy (EL1106 - 100%. EL1108 – 75%), Chevron Canada (EL1109 - 100%), Suncor Energy (EL1108 – 25%), and Vulcan Minerals and Investcan have a 50-50 interest in EL1107.  The Labrador Shelf area can reach water depths greater than 3000 m, experience waves up to 13 m high and has significant ice conditions, with pack ice reaching a thickness of up to 17 m and icebergs a serious threat from July through October.  This is a very harsh environment which will require some innovative solutions to overcome the challenges it presents.

LAURENTIAN SUB-BASIN

The Laurentian Sub-basin is located south of the island portion of Newfoundland & Labrador.  This basin is home to five exploration licences, four of which are held by ConocoPhillips (EL1081R, 1082R, 1086R, 1087R) and one by Imperial Oil (EL1088).  ConocoPhillips is hoping to drill a well on one of its licences in 2009, pending rig availability.  This region has water depths of up to 3000 m, and is not prone to the same threat of ice as other basins, such as the Orphan or Jeanne d’Arc basins.

SYDNEY BASIN

Three parcels in the Sydney Basin were up for bids in 2008.  One of the parcels received a bid and was thus awarded to Husky Energy (EL1115 - 100% interest).  Water depth in this region ranges from 400-500 m, and wave and ice conditions are much less extreme than other regions.

WESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR OFFSHORE REGION

There are currently eight Exploration Licences held in the Western Newfoundland & Labrador Offshore Region. NWest Energy holds 100% interest in four licences: EL1097, 1098, 1103 and 1104.  PDIP (EL1116), BG Oil and Gas (EL1102) and Corridor Resources (EL1105) all have 100% interest in a licence and the other licence, EL1070, is held jointly between the following: ENEGI Inc. 33.6%; CIVC Creditor Corporation 4.0%; Canadian Imperial Venture Corp. 4.8%; PDI Production Inc. 31.68%; Gestion Resources Limited 25.92%.  In 2008, NWest Energy conducted a 500 km2 offshore seismic survey over part of their licence area. The survey was completed in 2008 by Geophysical Service Inc. and analysis of the seismic data is ongoing.
