NOIA's President and CEO Moves on to Position with Department of Business
13 July 2005, St. John’s, Newfoundland
– Tony Goobie, Chairperson of NOIA would like to announce that Leslie Galway will be resigning from her position as NOIA's President and CEO effective August 5, 2005. Ms. Galway is moving on to the Department of Business with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador as Deputy Minister.
Ms. Galway became NOIA's first full-time president and CEO in December of 1999. Since that time she has led NOIA's operations, been a member of NOIA's Board of Directors and been involved in a number of industry committees and boards as well as been an integral part of the Atlantic Energy Roundtable as co-chair of the Industrial Opportunities Working Group.
Chairperson, Tony Goobie expressed his gratitude for Ms. Galway's contribution and leadership to NOIA. Leslie has been a champion for the industry and for the association in so many ways. She has helped build
relationships with stakeholders that are invaluable to the work NOIA does in its pursuit of building a globally competitive industry. She has led the association in providing new and improved services to our members, as well as the production of world-class events for which NOIA has become known. It is her energy and enthusiasm that has allowed NOIA to thrive despite the cyclical nature of the oil and gas industry. On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank her for her dedication to the association and wish her all the best in her new position.
As NOIA's President and CEO for the past five and a half years, Leslie Galway has been involved in East Coast Canada's oil and gas industry at a very interesting time in its development. "It has certainly been a rare privilege to serve as President and CEO of NOIA over a period that has seen the completion of the development of the Terra Nova project, two producing oil operations, new basin exploration and shortly the sail away of the Sea Rose," Galway says. NOIA has allowed me to work with so many of the province's business leaders and we have successfully collaborated on many industry projects and policies. The resources offshore and onshore and the strength of the business community has provided great opportunity to promote
and advocate for an industry that I believe has become a strong foundation for Newfoundland and Labrador's economic future. The Department of Business will allow me to continue to be an advocate for investment and business attraction for this province and I look forward to the challenge."
Established in 1977, NOIA is a body of some 450-member companies with a common interest in oil and gas industry development. NOIA members develop, manufacture and market products and services in oil and gas industries, both offshore and onshore. NOIA works closely with license-holders, trade associations and all levels of government to facilitate its members' involvement in the oil and gas industry.
