NOIA Fall Seminar Explores New Technologies in the Oil & Gas Industry

St John’s, NL November 17, 2009 – Oil & gas industry professionals gathered in St. John’s today to learn what new technologies are helping to make further development possible in Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore at NOIA’s Fall Seminar: Drilling Down: Technologies to Explore and Advance. The seminar fell on an industry milestone, the 12th anniversary of first oil at Hibernia.

The morning began with Gary Sonnichsen of the Geological Survey of Canada, Vicky Jackson-Neilson of Halliburton-Well Dynamics and Dwight Smith of Schlumberger giving presentations on exploration development and management. Jim Beresford of Statoil Canada, Melissa English-Barbour, Noble Drilling, Kelly Hawbolt, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Raymond Collins, Operations Manager, P.F. Collins rounded out the morning focussing on drilling challenges and opportunities.
 
The keynote speaker was Samir Awad, Managing Director, Petrobras Netherlands B.V. Petrobras Netherlands B.V. is a subsidiary of Petróleo Brasileiro S.A.  which supports Petrobras' operations involving purchasing, selling, leasing, renting, and freighting oil and gas exploration and production equipment in the Repetro program.  Mr Awad spoke about Petrobras’s new role in developing innovative ideas and successful solutions for the challenges of producing oil from deepwater wells.
