NOIA elects 2008 Board of Directors, adopts new official name
31 January, 2008, St John’s, NL
– NOIA, the organization that represents East Coast Canada’s petroleum supply and service industry, held its Annual General Meeting today at the Delta St John’s Hotel. The event comprised a business meeting, keynote luncheon and election of officers.
During the business meeting, President & CEO Bob Cadigan released NOIA’s
2007 Annual Report
(
pdf: 4 MB
) and presented the rationale for a special resolution to approve a change of the Association’s official name.
“To reflect the official identity of the province, the Board recommends our name now include
Labrador
,” said Cadigan. “To reflect the true focus of the organization, our name should refer to
oil and gas
industries rather than
ocean
industries. So our legal name will be
Newfoundland & Labrador Oil and Gas Industries Association
, which is a better fit with our mission statement and the purpose for which NOIA was founded.”
Cadigan also confirmed that the Association would continue to use the familiar trade name
NOIA
. The change to NOIA’s official name was approved by the membership by ballot.
Also during the business meeting, 2007 NOIA Treasurer Geoff Cunningham provided a Treasurer’s Report and presented the Association’s 2007 financial statements, which were accepted unanimously.
During his luncheon keynote address, Husky Energy’s East Coast Canada Production and Operations Manager provided an update on Husky’s production and exploration activities, as well as an outlook for the White Rose Expansion project. Highlights of the address included: the report that the
SeaRose
has had no lost time accidents since first oil in 2005; the fact that the White Rose project had reached simple payout in March 2007 and Tier I Net Royalty in August 2007; and the projection that the first phase of White Rose Expansion (the Amethyst pool tieback) is scheduled to reach first oil in 2009 Q4, pending regulatory and other approvals.
The election of officers saw NOIA choose three directors from a field of eleven: Harry Pride was returned for a second two-year term; John Henley and Trevor Giles were elected for an initial term of two years. Current NOIA Board members Michael Critch and Geoff Cunningham stood unopposed and were acclaimed, respectively, as Treasurer and Vice Chair.
Upon conclusion of the election of the board of directors NOIA’s board comprises:
• Caron Hawco, Caron Hawco Communications – Chairperson
• Geoff Cunningham, A. Harvey & Company Ltd. – Vice Chair
• Michael Critch, Fabcon Canada Ltd. - Treasurer
• Jerry Byrne, D.F. Barnes Limited – Past Chair
• Robert Cadigan, President & CEO
• Trina Appleby, Appleby Consulting – Director
• Trevor Giles, Technip Canada Limited – Director
• John Henley, GJ Cahill and Company – Director
• Jack Lawlor, PV Inspection Services Ltd. - Director
• Tim Lawrence, Oceaneering Canada Ltd. - Director
• Steve Millan, Canadian Imperial Venture Corp. - Director
• Jeff Peddle, The Wilds Golf Course and Conference Centre - Director
• Harry Pride, Blue Water Agencies Limited – Director
On assuming the role as NOIA’s 2008 Chairperson, Ms Hawco said: “In my role as NOIA Chair for 2008, I assure you that I will focus on building for the future. And doing what NOIA does best: promoting the development of our hydrocarbon resources; working to ensure our members’ full, fair and equal access to the business opportunities that flow from development; creating a forum for the exchange of information and ideas about oil and gas; working with governments and operators to grow our industry and foster opportunity; and above all, fostering petroleum related careers among our youth, who represent the future for the industry and for us all.”
The incoming Chair also expressed enthusiasm for working with the newly constituted 2008 Board of Directors and thanked those stepping down after their terms of service:
• Bill Fanning, Spectrol Energy Services Inc. – Director
• Roy Farrell, Transocean Canada Co. – Past Chair
NOIA President & CEO Bob Cadigan added: “NOIA is off to a running start for 2008, with a strong roster of events and research/policy initiatives, as well as a strong and knowledgeable Board to guide us through. With the kind of industry activity we’re anticipating – development of the White Rose satellites, a potential Hebron DPA, drilling in the Orphan, Flemish Pass and Jeanne d’Arc basins – we are looking forward to a busy, successful year.”
